EMPOWERING

RADICAL RURAL FUTURES

Rural places are on the frontlines of big change, from climate adaptation and biodiversity loss to shifting economies, depopulation, and the transition to net zero.

But rural communities are often left out of decisions about their own futures.

We believe rural areas hold radical potential, not just to survive, but to lead. Our work supports communities, councils and creatives to imagine bold futures rooted in place, and to take steps towards them.

What we do

OUR WORK

We work with rural places across Scotland and beyond, supporting locally-led action through:

  • Creative Engagement & Research
Designing participatory, sensory and story-led processes that surface lived experience and open new possibilities.

  • Regenerative Place Strategies
Co-creating practical, community-shaped plans across themes like housing, food, mobility, energy and local economy.

  • New Rural Infrastructures
Prototyping small-scale models for care, culture, transport and commons-based futures shaped by real needs, not templates.

  • Narrative Change
Using storytelling, advocacy and publishing to reframe what rural life is and what it could be.

  • Local authorities & regional agencies

  • Community organisations & grassroots groups

  • Cultural & environmental orgs

  • Universities & researchers

  • Artists, designers & local practitioners
